Rear tapered roller wheel bearing kit, for one wheel. Not genuine Timken type but a copy. These can be used on any Mini.
Kit includes inner and outer bearings with spacer plus seals and split pin. If you are into preventative maintenance, then the tapered bearings are much easier to remove and re-pack than the ball bearing type.
Stronger design, plus easy maintenance means they will last longer than the rest of the car.
These are the best of all the aftermarket types we have tested and tried.
Many alternative suppliers samples have seized up after a few hundred miles.
Adjusting hub bearings
Adjust the hub end float to 0.0254 to 0.1270mm (.001 - .005in) using the following procedure.
- Spin the hub and tighten the nut to 6.7 Nm (5lb f/ft).
- Stop the hub spinning and slacken the nut.
- Tighten the nut finger tight.
- Locate the split pin hole by slackening the nut and insert the split pin.
WARNING:
Do not reduce the end float below 0.001 in (0.025mm).
The bearing must not be pre-loaded.
